With his most solid studio effort since “The Fix” in 2002, Scarface returns with a rejuvenated swagger to coincide with his infamous lyrical content, as he propels ”MADE” in to one of his best albums of his career. The set-up of “MADE” brings Scarface back to form when he released albums such as “Mr. Scarface is Back”, and “My Homies”. With 12 tracks including an intro and outro, Face-Mob gets right to work as he pours out on the gritty but soulful opening track “Never” produced by Drumma Boy and N.O. Joe”. As Face spits, “\I never ran\ I never will\ I aint’ never scared\ It’s in my bloodline the realest nigga ever bread”. He sets the tone for the album, which post low-key but quality guest appearances from fellow Texas native Z-Ro, along with Juvenile affiliate Wacko, Nina, and Tanya Herron.
The lead single, “Girl You Know”, produced by Nottz, features a classic Lenny Williams sample which complements Scarface’ smooth but at times overpowering delivery and gives him a natural commercial single which is unconventional compared to the raw and Hardcore singles he has produced in the past. Face speaks from the mind of a man who has realized the relationship he is in is not for him.\I just spent six years in this shit\the first two was cool and the bitch just flipped\And then that’s it\had to make some new plans\cuz ya’ brand new women got a brand new man\… And further more, he miserable as he reflects upon her promiscuous past but acknowledges he is obligated to stay in the relationship because of how she cares for of his children.
Aside from the tracks “Never”,” Big Dogg Status”, and “Burn” featuring Z-Ro, The Album’s last song, “Suicide Note” along with “Boy Meet’s Girl”, exhibits Scarfaces’ lyrical and clear storytelling ability, and produce the two strongest tracks on “MADE”. Comparable to Jay-Z’ “I Know”, or 50 Cents “Baltimore Love Thing”, “Boy Meets Girl”, presents three stories that have the common theme of a Heroin addiction. Scarface smoothly presents the relationship between man and woman or more indirectly the relationship between man and drug. “\This match was made in Heaven\ girl meets boy and stayed together\ a feeling never known to neither\ this can be forever\”. Face keeps listeners on edge with Suicide Note, where he expresses guilt for ignoring a friend’s silent cry for help.”\He had his reasons\I should’ve believed him\Another soul no longer breathing\…\My nonchalant-ness, Just took a soul over some nonsense\”. Produced by Tone Capone, Cozmo, N.O. Joe and Mike Dean, this track undoubtedly helps bring “MADE” full circle. From the grit and soulfulness heard on the albums opening track “Never”, to the Tranquility and compassion released on the albums final track, Scarface hits the nail on the head as he leaves listeners of “MADE” yearning for more and also wondering what a notable feature or a few tracks by an accomplished producer could bring.
With production headed by N.O. Joe, Mike Dean, Drumma Boy and a cast of others, “MADE” overcomes a few lackluster beats and a sub-par offering on “Who Do You Believe in”, to give Scarface by far his best release in recent years, and present one of his better efforts to include within in his catalog.
