AM Radio: Fight the Power

AM RadioAM Radio… comprised of Aniekan, Per-A Jahlion, PJ Herring, Wes Clark, Feijao, Jamal Smith, Buck, Gerald Watson and DJ Two-Tone Jones is a movement in motion. They epitomize how art can create emotion which can trigger action or revolution. Lupe Fiasco said, “if hip hop was a vehicle it would be a bus that had the ability to pick up people from all walks of life, and it should assist them in getting wherever they have to go.” Experience a AM Radio show and you will leave motivated to simply move.

Comparing themselves to the Wu-Tang Clan, AM Radio is movement that exists up and down the coasts of the US from Philadelphia, New York, to Las Vegas. They are always surprised by the amount of artists who want to become a part of their artistic lane and for those who are inquiring Gerald Watson says the door is open.

With live shows where DJ Two-Tone Jones spins in conjunction to the energy and subliminal call and response from the crowd at the event AM Radio is given photos in which they then turn into beautiful, funky, hypnotic collages that embody the soul and bring life and imagination to the still images.

AM Radio

In 2007 AM Radio will focus more on community oriented events and if there is one thing they would immediately change in the District of Columbia to uplift the community, it would be the public education system. They understand that kids are the future, however cliché it may sound but Wes Clark states, “if they are not reached on their level why should they think we care?” Gerald Watson of AM Radio stated, “We are tired of art for art sake, we do art for a purpose.” Besides Gerald Watson, Wes Clark and others felt like they received the big recognition when they were asked by Timberland and Adidas to do life-size pieces for their respective companies.

AM Radio is an example that if you are passionate and love something you can make a living out of it, and not work a day in your life because the work is something you love to do.
