Some days it feels like we’ve been doing this forever and other days it feels like we’ve just begun. Either way we learn something knew each issue, whether it’s about the music or culture it’s all relative. However, I’ve come to the realization that I’m not to concerned (not that I ever was) with genres. Why can’t good music just be good music? I feel very strongly that the minute something gets turned into a genre, sub-culture or whatever mass media feels they need to label it, that quote un quote type of music slowly becomes another formula inserted into the bigger equation that often dilutes anything that looks or smells like something authentic. Frankly, that’s hard to swallow. Scheme will continue to push our own boundaries and learn as we go, it’s all relative, everything comes from something that came from something else.
With that said, this month we bring you the likes of all those who aren’t concerned with labels, genres, or fitting into whatever formula that looks like them. Cover story HustleSimmons, Buff1, the legendary Simon Illa are just a few of the features that we bring to you and we can’t forget about Giant Panda and Nina Simone’s daughter Simone, if you don’t know who these individuals are check them out we may push you to dig a little deeper.
