Editor’s Note 001

Editor's Note > 001 > – Feb 4, 2007 – by ease del.icio.us Digg

To the B-boys, B-girls, DJ’s, graffiti writers, emcees, backpackers, skateboarders, nerds, fans, critics, academians, heads who have lost faith and those who still press on, we present Scheme Magazine, an e-zine with the purpose of bringing balance back to the hip hop community and generation.

Scheme was created because, as author Jeff Chang stated, “…we are weary.” Lately, the hip hop community has been force fed and subconsciously programmed to believe what hip hop culture is and how it aesthetically should look. As artist/poet Black Ice and owners of the sneaker/fashion boutique, major), will tell you hip hop is bigger than the fifteen dollar CD that is purchased at your local music store. The hip hop community has grown internationally so we must begin to “think globally and act locally”, for example, Saving Darfur and recognizing the impact that the AIDS epidemic is having on our communities.

KharyIn these bi-weekly issues, our goal is to represent all sides of hip hop - not just the music, which through mainstream media outlets appears very repetitive. Scheme Magazine is here to give you the truth. We couldn’t have chosen a more historic day to launch than the day when two African-American head coaches are competing for the Super Bowl Championship, only reinstating the point that there is something greater than all of us and we hope this medium brings the hip hop generation a step closer to that whatever it may be.

Thank you to my fiancée Tia Brown, I couldn’t have done this without your unconditional support. Thanks to all contributors including, the versatile photographer Shannon Evans, Charles “Phil Jackson” Keys, David Jaguttis, Daniel Eckler, Jordan Chalifoux, Beatsmith, AM Radio, Target Squad, all of the dedicated marketing teams, Tamir, Lyrxx, B. Kyle, Amanda Diva, and KTPG for reminding me to live. To all the Washington, DC sneaker companies and artists, I got you. Last but not least, to my partner Khary Campbell, thank you for seeing something in me that I denied seeing in myself.

In the words of late J. Dilla, “Let’s go!”

You Choose,

DC

Scheme has exceeded my expectations. I am so very much impressed with what you have done with this website. I cannot express how good it feels to know there is something out there for the people that is educational, entertaining and so very interesting and so very hip. I love the articles and Black Ice has my heart. The music, the poetry. The graphics, photos, music all that it entails is above and beyond. Best of luck and continue to do it and do it good.
